Offering Autonomy, Flexibility, Support and Earning Opportunities for Associates Seeking a Private Practice Model Internship
Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center is a nonprofit organization and offers psychotherapy (in-person and teletherapy) to individuals, couples and families throughout the Greater Bay Area and California. We also offer a supportive internship program for pre-licensed clinicians, including Associate Marriage Family Therapists, Associate Social Workers and Associate Professional Clinical Counselors. (Unfortunately, we cannot assist individuals seeking practicum placements as trainees; you must have a registered Associate number from the BBS to apply. Additionally, we can not admit a current client of a Grateful Heart therapist.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Can I retain my current caseload if I am transferring from an agency or school clinic? Your current clients can join you at Grateful Heart after you leave your current placement site. In addition to providing continuity of care for your clients, this will allow you to begin Grateful Heart with an established caseload. It will also provide you with opportunities for longer term client retention: a benefit for both you and your clients.
Where is the internship located? We are not a typical brick and mortar agency. Many of our Associates practice teletherapy over video; some choose to have offices throughout the Bay Area, primarily in San Francisco, Marin, the East Bay and Contra Costa County.
How long is the internship? Our program seeks to support clinicians as they begin their career post-graduation, through licensure and eventually transitioning to their own private practice or other agency. Therefore the length that you are here will vary based on your own professional goals and the process of accruing hours toward your license. On average, our clinicians tend to stay around two to three years.
What kind of training do you offer? We provide monthly trainings to support you in building skills for both your clinical development as well as the business aspects of running your own practice.
What kind of community does your program offer? Grateful Heart is actively engaged in building and sustaining a culture of community among our collaborator groups. This involves creating spaces for collaboration, dialogue, training and mutual support, to ensure that our clinicians, supervisors, staff and volunteers feel connected and empowered cohesively toward the organization’s mission. By centering contact, inclusivity, and care, we are all able to work more cohesively in alignment with Grateful Heart’s mission.
