Anna D. Hirsch, MFA, MS
Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #102039
Relationships are a collaborative art and a practice. At the same time, love, intimacy, and sexual freedom are individual human rights. Bringing these elements together in our lives can sometimes be challenging.
I believe that love is available in ourselves when we choose it, and choosing love in ourselves brings more love into our relationships. While I am skilled at supporting healthy relationships and helping connect into the magical power community can offer in bolstering our romantic partnerships, I am equally committed to your individual healing and liberation.
I bring a range of modalities, philosophies, and life experiences to bear in my work as a psychotherapist. We may do art, drama therapy, meditation, somatic explorations, or imaginative play. Or, we may sit and talk. Just as relationships come in countless shapes and sizes, my counseling relationships are varied and change over time to meet the needs of my clients.
I specialize in working with singles, couples, and groups who are exploring or approaching issues in alternative relationships and alternative family structures, including ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, kink, living single, co-parenting, and chosen family. I also bring extended knowledge about:
- compersion (“the opposite of jealousy”)
- coming out and living out in the context of SOGIE, alternative relationships, and chosen family
- relationship shifts and transitions
- interdependence in long-term romantic relationships
Yes, all relationships shift and change; yet, love can regenerate again and again in the most mysterious moments and forms when we stay open and curious. The co-creative journey of intimate relationships is a fundamental part of our human well-being. You are lovable.
I began counseling as a young person. For social and cultural reasons, I was thrust into a role of supporting my close family through high-conflict challenges, trying to support my loved ones to lessen their suffering in their relationships. Though I had no idea at the time that I had already begun my life's right work as a counselor, I did know that I was loving people the best way I knew how. This role taught me at a young age that I have a deep and wise knowing about how to stick with love.
I completed my formal education as a psychodynamic psychotherapist at San Francisco State University, graduating in 2017 with a master's of science (MS) degree in clinical psychology. From fall 2016 through fall 2017, I served as a psychotherapy trainee with Family Paths, and I am currently practicing as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California through Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center.
