Jessica Youseffi, MA
Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist 104939; Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor 4866
I have enjoyed supporting clients with a range of experiences through my work in private practice, hospital, and agency settings. I integrate my experience as a mindfulness facilitator and lead meditation and self-compassion groups to help clients learn techniques to reduce stress, increase empathy, and improve awareness. I also draw upon my experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and their families and provide queer and gender affirmative therapy.
It is important to me as a queer-identified therapist from a multicultural background to help clients on the margins address the long-term effects of discrimination and stigma, navigate the complexities of their identities, and embrace their unique expressions.
I have also worked with adolescents and their families at Adolescent Counseling Services. Before becoming a therapist, I served as a hospital chaplain at California Pacific Medical Center where I counseled patients struggling with illness and grief.
MY BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
In addition to helping individuals overcome feelings of shame and self-criticism, I work with:
● Couples on their communication skills, intimacy issues, and conflict resolution
● Teens struggling with mental health issues including, anxiety, self-harm, and depression
● Individuals from underrepresented populations who experience social marginalization, including people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and immigrants
● Individuals working through illness, grief, and loss
● Individuals who are exploring spiritual and existential issues
With deep presence and care, I provide a warm space for you to be as you are without fear of judgment. Working from a holistic perspective, I integrate mindfulness, self-compassion, body-oriented techniques, and cognitive and behavioral therapy approaches. Using these tools, I help you notice the dynamics, beliefs, and behaviors that cause you suffering. By helping you cultivate deeper self-awareness, I support you to make choices that free you from the harmful patterns that no longer serve you.
You are not intrinsically broken or in need of fixing, but your pain is real. Your symptoms are very human reactions to emotional suffering and were developed to help you survive and cope with your environment. As you generate a deeper sense of safety, you can connect with your underlying wholeness and let go of the survival mechanisms that no longer serve you. You have innate wisdom, resilience, and capacity for growth. My role is to help you access these underlying strengths so that you can feel more calm, centered, and confident in yourself.
Therapy can be a powerful catalyst for transformation and deep inner work. I am inspired by the courage it takes to pursue this work and am honored by the opportunity to join you on your journey to feeling more fulfilled, satisfied, and whole.
