Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, APCC #5357
I received a master’s degree in clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling with an emphasis in gerontology at San Francisco State University. I have certificates in LGBT mental health and human services and post-combat behavioral health (veteran mental health) from Alliant International University. I have also completed basic and advanced training in attachment-focused eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) and regularly pursue continuing education and consultation related to trauma recovery and healing. Prior to pursuing a career in mental health, I earned degrees in English and comparative literature at San Francisco State University and University of California, Santa Barbara.
MY BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
I completed a clinical internship at a harm reduction-based substance use program providing culturally sensitive treatment for gay, bi, and transmen and men who have sex with men. I have also provided trauma-informed grief counseling for children and families coping with death and/or life-threatening illnesses. I was a volunteer for the Shanti Project, providing emotional and practical support for someone living with a chronic, life-threatening illness.
I have additional experience as an overnight therapist at a short-term, residential crisis stabilization program in San Mateo and as a case manager in San Francisco, offering support services for individuals who were formerly homeless.
I recognize the complexity of physical and psychological trauma and its potential impact upon a person’s thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, core beliefs, and communication styles and believe in the profound healing capacity of a strong therapeutic relationship.
At the same time, I know that healing from a history of trauma and oppression is not always an isolated process and interlocks within the complexity of one’s biology, personality, environment, society, and larger multi-systemic issues. We are always evolving as individuals and as parts of an evolving collective.
Considering these factors, I realize that not everyone learns and grows the same way, so I try to remain dynamic and flexible according to your needs.
I am a fierce advocate for universal design and believe that mental health services should be accessible to everyone regardless of their situation. This is why I offer a variety of services from traditional counseling, attachment-focused EMDR, NeurOptimal Neurofeedback®, therapy services at home, and variations in session length to best accommodate your abilities, sensitivities, preferences, and comfort level.

MORE ABOUT MY PRACTICE
I am a firm believer that the key to empowerment and growth in counseling begins with a strong relationship between you and your therapist. Therefore, I offer all new potential clients a free 50-minute in-person consultation. Some clients may prefer to use this time to ask questions while other prefer to dive right in. I offer this because finding the right therapist can be a daunting and anxious endeavor and I believe that eliminating concerns about cost can help you take the time to find the therapist with whom you are most comfortable.
In addition to my San Francisco office, I also offer therapy at home services (depending on availability) in San Francisco, East Bay, and San Mateo counties.
