Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFT 99214
I grew up on the East Coast and in the Midwest and have made my home in San Francisco since 2011. Like many of my clients, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. My own healing process informs the care I bring to my clients and deepens my passion for continuing to learn about the many ways people can heal emotionally and spiritually. Outside of my work as a therapist, I find meaning in music, singing, nature, crafty projects, and good stories.
MY BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
I studied music theory at Oberlin College for my undergraduate degree. My desire to understand music, something that has always been highly emotional for me, eventually developed into a desire to understand emotions and emotional healing. This led me to study integral counseling psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). Since completing my master’s degree at CIIS, I have counseled clients at the Pierce Street Integral Counseling Center and the Liberation Institute. I joined Grateful Heart in 2017.
My approach is trauma-informed, which means I look to your past experiences to better understand the ways you are struggling today. Trauma, big and small, leaves you with deeply ingrained beliefs about yourself and the world that you might not even realize you’re carrying. I will help you identify those beliefs, consider whether they are helping or hindering you, and work to shift them when appropriate.
My approach is also relational, which means that our relationship as therapist and client is an important part of our work. How you relate in therapy reflects how you relate to the world, and our sessions provide a safe, nonjudgmental container to explore those patterns.
I value integrity, authenticity, and aliveness. I work well with clients who share these values and are striving to be true to themselves. I also value access to mental health care and strive to make my services affordable and available to all who are willing to commit to working on themselves. If you are concerned about affording therapy, please talk with me about my sliding scale fee option. My wish is for therapy to be accessible to everyone. If I can’t accommodate you in my practice, I will help connect you with someone who can.
