Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFT 107283
My desire to help others began after healing from an abusive relationship with food and my body. After healing, I wanted to help others and I became a holistic health coach. For the next 18 years, I supported women to shift their relationship with food and their bodies. Through studying my own relationship with food and supporting others to do the same, I discovered that the study of food was also the study of relationship.
I realized one could use every relationship as a catalyst to know oneself. And in knowing ourselves we have a chance to unlock the feelings and behaviors that hold us back from being our whole, authentic selves.
My passion to study relationship kept deepening as I realized relationships are the mirror into our souls. We learn who we are through relating, so why not use each relationship as an opportunity for that growth?
MY BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Hungry for self-knowledge, I began my path of personal growth as a teenager and put myself in environments that would help me learn. I dove into a whole lot of therapy and unlimited personal growth workshops, sat multiple meditation retreats around the world, and studied, practiced, and taught yoga. I studied holistic health coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Once I started seeing clients, the work kept getting deeper and deeper. In 2014, I went back to graduate school at Dominican University to study clinical psychology. I enhanced my education through training in Hakomi, a body-based psychotherapy, emotionally focused therapy for couples, the developmental model of couples therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.
I see the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative exchange. I am not the expert but a guide on the side helping you uncover the conditioning, negative beliefs, and patterns that hold you hostage. I listen deeply, reflect, and support you with compassion and warmth to dive deeper into the vulnerability that is longing to be seen. We are building a relationship and it is through the truth and trust in that relationship that you can begin to study yourself, your habits, your thoughts, and your feelings, allowing you to heal your wounded, unacknowledged parts. My approach blends talk therapy, somatic therapy, and engaging exercises that help you notice what is going on within in order to bring those parts forward. Then you can decide what you want to keep and what needs to go away.
I value truth. Within truth lies freedom. As hard as it may be to say what you are thinking or feeling, I believe when you find the courage to look at yourself deeply, it leads you to your truth, and no one can argue with that. It is what I want for myself, for you, and for every person: truth and freedom. I value, honor, and respect the dedication it takes to study ourselves so that we can be more conscious and aware of our thoughts, feelings, and actions. When you know yourself, you can bring that forward to meet any relationship you are in (whether it’s with an intimate partner, child, a co-worker, an addiction, your inner life. . .) and that is when the magic starts to happen.
