- Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker
ASW 77131; Somatic Experiencing Practioner (SEP)
Master of Science, Social Work
I can help you feel more fully alive. I can help you align with the truth of who you are so you can experience deeper, more loving connections with yourself, the people you care about, and the world around you. The symptoms that bring you to therapy are actually signals for you to come back home to yourself.
I do somatic psychotherapy with people ready for radical change. I specialize in working with healers, artists, seekers, dancers, innovators, entrepreneurs, eccentrics, and anyone for whom it is too painful to live any life other than their own.
I know how it is struggle with the many social forces that aim to stifle our wild aliveness. Since I was young, my body wanted to dance, my voice wanted to speak, my mind wanted to create, and my heart wanted to love. But I met many barriers. I had to find pathways to break free and become the whole person and artist I really am.
This continuing quest has led me on many journeys: years of world travel; studies of philosophy, science, language, nature, and social systems; deep meditation practice and retreat; and a shattering process of healing from developmental trauma. And so much has changed. My personal life is now focused on the joy of improvisational movement, writing, and building radically intimate relationships.
This quest has also evolved into my gift and purpose: helping you reconnect to your whole, vital self.
Beyond the usual depth psychotherapy training, I am strongly influenced by Jung. My background in meditation can help you learn the subtle inner language of your body. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I can help you learn to calm your nervous system in the face of seemingly insurmountable trauma—even the deep, confusing fragmentation and terror of early childhood experiences. My comprehensive understanding of family and social systems can help you to discern what is and is not truly yours. In all areas, I have sought out the most developed mentors and teachers for deep apprenticeship.
Together we’ll build your capacity to be who you really are. This creative and intuitive process involves some combination of conversation, tracking emotions and sensations, visualization, movement, and expression. I honor the pace, safety, and gentleness that your process needs. With mindfulness and precision, we’ll explore automatic behaviors and patterns, empowering you to recognize them when they occur so that you can make novel choices. We’ll revisit the foundations of your present suffering, freeing old, stuck energy and beliefs. Using Somatic Experiencing (SE) touch, we can go deeper to help regulate emotions and access early, preverbal material. I can support you in feeling more at home in your body so you can trust your healing process and life more fully.
My purpose is not to help adjust you to an unjust system or mold you into something that will make the people around you feel more comfortable. My responsibility is to not reproduce the values of domestication and domination woven so deeply into all modern institutions, including psychology. I am here to serve your innate human dignity, to be your companion as you step into new stories and ways of being in the midst of a mostly lost, deeply suffering human world.
