Master of Social Work
I will partner with you in addressing your concerns in a safe, supportive, and confidential space. I blend psychodynamic therapy with holistic tools for grounding the heart and mind, which means we will make sense of the past so that a way forward feels clearer and more motivating, all the while cultivating steps to start feeling better now. My practice is rooted in the belief that all people have the ability to shift gears when they want to feel change. It sometimes requires openness, and that isn't easy. I work with the following goals in mind: to help you gain more clarity, to support you in moving past unhelpful beliefs, and to guide you along the path of feeling more at home in yourself.
In my couples work, I integrate all of these themes into the process with two primary objectives: increasing understanding of one another and reducing blame cycles. For those who are new parents, we set intergenerational repair into motion by looking at each partner's past family challenges and explore what they mean to you both now, bringing more awareness to the selves and one another. The beauty of couples therapy is how much healing work can happen on the individual level, thus passing down new patterns to the next generation.
I am originally from Georgia and feel very connected to the rhythms of the southern outdoors and community. Being a social worker is major part of my orientation and identity as well as being Jewish and a learner of cultural folk wisdom. I love sitting with clients and hearing their authentic selves come through and knowing their stories. Mindfulness, social justice, humility, and self-compassion are the ideals that inspire and guide me most.
I received my master in social work from New York University in 2014 and spent the next several years working as a program director for a grassroots aging-in-place program for older adults in NYC. This work is close to my heart because it was a time when I learned to be both ally and leader to a community that taught me how beautiful the resiliency of the human spirit can be. Upon moving to California, I worked in Kern County's crisis division up until I had my first baby, which was when I decided to slow everything down and embrace the journey of motherhood. I am now solely working with clients in a private practice setting and I have found a rich, wonderful connection to working this way with clients. I have trainings in both psychodynamic couples therapy and perinatal mental health to assist individuals and couples on the parenting path. I continue to embark on various trainings and retreats to cultivate my knowledge and connection to this work as well as my own personal expansion.
I work with a psychodynamic, holistic, and solution-focused approach. This means we will bring in some of your early life history and use that information to bring meaning to current relationship and life dynamics. All the while we will actively work toward nurturing your well-being and sense of connectedness to your world. I draw from researched modalities including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy and attachment theory as well as holistic mediums like boundary exercises, guided visualizations, narrative journaling, and more.
