Master of Art in Counseling Psychology & Expressive Arts Therapy
"Shakti" in Sanskrit means the energy, life force, & power within you.
Supporting you through your cycles. Dancing in between the ebbs and flows, from life transitions to new beginnings. Empowering you to tune into your own rhythms. What if I told you that those traumatic voices & experiences of the past don’t define you, or your body. You can rewrite your own narrative in a way that empowers you to create the life you desire, not what others have bestowed upon you. Finding home, identity, & belonging within yourself after living your entire life split between two lands like a bridge between two cultures.
Let me support you in reclaiming your power, Awakening Your Shakti through east west psychotherapy, and coaching for individuals, groups, and women’s circles, specializing in sacred sexuality, body positivity, navigating multicultural experiences, and coping through spiritual emergence/awakenings & the dark night of the soul.
Hi there, and sending you a warm welcome! You don’t have to embark on your journey alone. As a person of South Asian descent, an Indian American, I know what it’s like to live your entire life split between two lands and feel like the bridge between two cultures, in search of home.
I’ve experienced the culturally conservative, patriarchal upbringings, extreme religious views, & mental health stigmas that have restricted you from stepping into your power. After my own & continuous journey of liberation, my promise is to support your awakening of your power, your Shakti.
My wide variety of experience involves working with individual clients and groups in non profits such as The Liberation Institute, residential treatment centers like Progress Foundation, and universities such as San Francisco State University in reclaiming sexuality, sexual trauma, cult survivors, dating & boundaries, relationships & codependency, multicultural experiences, depression & suicidality, spiritual emergence & dark night of the soul.
Prior to entering mental health, I was working with leaders in the government in Washington D.C as a consultant in the field of Industrial Organizational Psychology. My work primarily focused on work-life balance, job stress & high turnover reduction, navigating multicultural gaps in the workplace, advocating about sexual misconduct in the workplace for women employees, designing leadership programs with mental health & well being in mind. Thus, igniting my interest & career change to be a psychotherapist.
With my M.A. in Counseling Psychology & Expressive Arts Therapy from California Institute of Integral Studies, I believe that creativity unlocks our subconscious and expresses parts of ourselves that words cannot, thus, a great deal of my approach in our work will stem from Expressive Arts Therapy and Jungian Psychology.
As a carrier of eastern lineage & upbringing, working from a lens of east west psychotherapy comes naturally. I often incorporate eastern philosophy, Vedic yoga, meditation, and sacred dances from India to the Near East within a framework of dance movement therapy infused with traditional talk therapy. Moving your hips and reconnecting to your womb or yoni through Raqs Sharqi or Belly Dance and expressing yourself through mudras, or hand gestures & god/goddess poses of Indian Classical Dances, such as Bharatnatyam, Kathak, & Odissi.
Additionally, according to eastern philosophy, the mind, body, and spirit are connected. Therefore, our work together will also be ingrained in somatic therapy. Otherwise, there is such a thing as body memory, in which the body is used as a starting point for deeper emotional healing.
My style is warm, gentle, compassionate, and a little playful! Although healing and growth can be hard work, there is also space for dance, art, & music when we are working together because who said healing can’t also be fun?! Everything is an invitation. You aren’t expected to move forward with anything that makes you uncomfortable. My intention is to empower you in your ability to discern & decide what is best for you. Your culture, your uniqueness, your weirdness, your playfulness, your inner child is always welcome. Your younger self who just needed to be loved and hugged, or just needed to be childlike and carefree but wasn’t met with those needs, can now be met in our space together. In a world that is constantly trying to change you, I want you to be you!
