Alexandra (Alix) Marcus
- Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker
Master of Arts, Social Work
My practice is open to all and I most enjoy working with LBGTQIA+, neurodivergent, and creative individuals in adolescence, emerging adulthood, and adulthood. The therapy I provide is particularly helpful for individuals managing the impacts of burnout, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, complex relationships, and challenges around identity. I am committed to creating a supportive space for you to make sense of life experiences and transitions, lifting up your own wisdom and ways of knowing.
I believe a compassionate witness can allow you to be with all your parts, especially the parts you have had to reject to survive, and guide you in cultivating an intentional relationship to self, others, and your communities. In this process, I strive to offer care that is authentic and affirming, leading with a strengths-based and collaborative approach.
Together we can re-humanize your life experiences, identify patterns, create new pathways and honor ways of being that already feel aligned. I place you as the expert of your life and humbly work alongside you. In session together, there is space for reflection, slowness, real-life strategies, creativity, humor, joy, and your multifaceted personhood.
I’m a former dance performance artist and community mental health worker with over 10 years of experience in the Bay Area. I have worked as a youth advocate, case manager, school social worker and therapist supporting individuals and families across the lifespan. I identify as white, cisgender, queer, femme, neurodivergent, middle-class, able-bodied, Jewish of Ashkenazi descent and am committed to my own learning, work, and therapy.
Based on your individual needs, I utilize an eclectic approach drawing primarily from relational, somatic, psychodynamic, expressive arts, narrative and internal family systems therapies. Additionally, I am influenced by lived experience, harm reduction, and the work of artists, educators, and organizers committed to liberation from oppressive and supremacist systems.
