Master of Arts, Counseling Psychology
I specialize in grief counseling and helping older individuals and couples navigate the challenges of aging.
We live in a world that has no time for grief and no patience for the physical and emotional challenges of aging. Because our culture has so little tolerance for these experiences, people are forced to push down their feelings and pretend that they’re not in any pain. As a result, it's easy to become lost in your grief and frustrated in your efforts to find meaning and joy as you age.
I also work with the families of substance abusers, helping them get their lives back on track and find a level of happiness whether their loved one is using or not.
When I was an undergraduate, I thought I'd go to graduate school to become a psychologist. But life took me in another direction. I ended up in business school and had a long and happy career in business.
As I became older I realized that I wanted something more. I enrolled in the Wright Institute and became an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist.
I became a therapist later in life. But I strongly believe that my life experiences as a husband, father, and businessperson have provided me with additional insight and experience that have proved very useful as a therapist.
My approach is connected, warm, strength-based, and supportive.
My style is to be highly transparent. I answer questions rather than deflect them and I don't keep secrets from my clients. My goal is for us to build a strong relationship based on openness and honesty.
I believe that the most effective therapeutic approach is one that the therapist and client craft together. You are an individual with a unique set of experiences and issues. How can I expect to be helpful if I only rely on a single approach that treats everyone the same way? It just doesn't make sense. The best solutions come from working together.
