Are you struggling to connect to your partner or important people in your life? Would you like to have deeper, more fulfilling relationships? Maybe you and your partner feel like you are trying to connect and just keep missing each other? Whether you come to therapy on your own or as part of a relationship, I can help you discover deeper connection and more fulfilling bonds.
My clients are my greatest inspiration. It takes guts to be vulnerable with yourself—even more so with another person. My clients are wading into vulnerability and finding their truest selves. They are working to bring themselves more fully into their relationships.
I know what it’s like to live as the person others expect you to be. In my community of origin, I internalized that there was a narrow way of being that was ‘OK.’ My journey as a therapy client as well as a therapist has been the process of finding my own ‘OK.’
My initial steps to finding myself took me as far away as Japan. My time there gave me an awareness of the deep power of language and the stories we tell. Retelling has been a powerful tool for me and I look deeply with clients at the power of how they “name” things.
During my master's program I worked primarily in a Gestalt modality. Gestalt focuses on connecting to what is happening here and now and practicing being with emotion. I'm trained in emotionally focused therapy (EFT), a research-based model for couples that draws on both neuroscience and attachment theory. Using this model, I support couples to have bonding conversations, form deeper connection, and find and new ways of navigating conflict. I draw from EFT in my work with individuals as well. I'm also trained in EMDR, an effective therapeutic modality for working with and moving through past trauma.
My approach is practical, warm, supportive, and empathic. I draw on multiple approaches, paying equal attention to both where you are and where you want to be. My work primarily draws from EFT and the work of Sue Johnson. This therapy model looks at the ways we react when we feel disconnected in our relationships and supports partners to access and express deeper, more vulnerable emotions. I also believe that the relationship we build together in therapy is part of what is healing in the counseling process.
Our relationships are the bedrock of our lives. If we can understand more about our relationship with ourselves and others, we can create profound shifts in our personal satisfaction and life enjoyment. I support clients in opening up new levels of self-awareness and having a broader array of choices based on that increased awareness.
