My name is Jemma and I’m a holistic psychotherapist rooted in depth and transpersonal psychologies. I work with expecting, new, and seasoned mothers, individuals who seek deeper connection to spirit, who are struggling to find their passion or purpose, who are navigating a life transition, or who are experiencing anxiety, grief, or are dealing with the ripple effects of trauma. I also work with couples and parents who are needing help tending to their relationship and finding more connection and understanding with each other.
My approach is warm, nurturing, curious, and engaged. Being human can be hard, and we are not meant to manage everything we are experiencing and feeling on our own. My goal is to co-create a safe space for you to feel heard, seen, and witnessed through your journey of healing. Each person is unique with specific needs, and I am here to help you figure out what meeting those needs could feel like and how to create more balance and calm in your nervous system.
I believe we all have parts of ourselves that are hidden underground because of painful experiences in our past that made us too scared to embody them fully. I seek to create a safe space for your whole self to emerge, be seen, and understood. I approach therapy from the perspective that healing happens within a relationship. We were born dependent upon others for our survival - as mammals, we learn and grow through our relating with other people. So much of our suffering and psychological distress are rooted in early childhood experiences with primary caregivers. I examine these experiences with my clients from a trauma-informed lens and never push clients to move faster than they are comfortable.
My orientation is holistic and psychodynamic, meaning I draw from a variety of psychological perspectives that are ultimately interested in what is happening beneath the surface of your psyche. I am focused on the present moment and bodily awareness in our sessions. I will help you attune to your here-and-now experience to understand yourself more deeply. I draw from depth, transpersonal, Gestalt, feminist, and person-centered psychological theories to create an individualized approach for each of my clients.
I have a master’s degree from California Institute of Integral Studies in Integral Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree from Mills College in English Literature. I am endlessly curious about psychological theories, rhetoric, and the role that trauma, the unconscious, and spirit play in the embodiment of the human experience.
I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, from community mental health to schools to private practice. My work is grounded in transpersonal and depth psychologies, but I draw from multiple therapeutic modalities to create a holistic and personalized space for each client. I am informed by my own background and interest in spirituality and the connection between the mind, body, and spirit.
My approach is depth-oriented, transpersonal, psychodynamic, and client-centered. I draw from various therapeutic modalities and follow the lead of my clients in their healing journey. I create a warm and nurturing therapeutic environment and try to show up authentically as my real self in the therapy room. I am engaged and experiential in my sessions, drawing from Gestalt and somatic exercises to help bring you more into your body and deeper self-awareness.
